Painting with Yellows and Oranges

I love experimenting with yellows and oranges and just feel good after painting with them. My new favorites are from Golden Acrylics, Dairydell Yellow and Indian Orange. Just little accents of them give the paintings a special glow.

Diptychs and Triptychs

There seems to be a trend lately for commissioned Diptychs and Triptychs.
I'm working on some now for the High Point Furniture Market and will see if the trend continues when I show them in April. The nice thing is that you can present a large size like the two yellow/orange painting that overall end up 40 x 80 and they are much easier to move and ship than one large canvas.

Obsessed with Figure Painting

Twist 24 x 48 (sold)

Seated Woman, Yellow Background 30 x 48

Blue Seascape, Seated Figure 24 x 36

Ocean View Figure 24 x 48
So, it's true.... I'm obsessed with figure painting. In fact it consumes me and I have to make myself stop thinking about it so I can get my regular painting done. In my free time I look at figures online and read the stack of figure painting and drawing books by my bed. I took my first life drawing class in my early twenties and then again last year. I have to say that it made a lot more sense later in life (maybe because I was paying attention to the teacher this time around). It's taking time, but finally I have a collection that I feel comfortable enough with to take to the High Point Furniture Market and we'll see what the buyers think. In the meantime please enjoy my obsession.

Painting a Collection

Abstract Cityscape Purples 36 x 48
Bodega Dunes Triptych-Haute House Furniture Neiman Marchus, SF
Horizon with Fuschia -Haute House Furniture, Neiman Marcus SF
Collection for Haute House Furniture- Neiman Marcus SF
A couple of months ago I was contacted by a long time friend, Casey from Haute House Furniture, who was putting a furniture gallery in the Neiman Marcus, San Francisco Store. He needed at for his walls and it needed to compliment his new collection.
I was sent photos of fabrics and color combinations and came up with what you see here.
While it's fun to paint freely whatever is coming into your head at the time, it's also rewarding to be able to thoughtfully plan what you are doing and fill the need of a designer or client.
