Seaside Greens

When I worked in my family's furniture business I was surprised to learn that for a time green was the number one selling sofa color. I don't know if it's the same today (I'm thinking "greige"), but I'm finding green to be such an intriguing color. Here are some new paintings exploring green....

Art Studio and Gallery Space

The before photo

I'm so excited about being able to share my paintings in a new studio and gallery space.
It's in Petaluma in the Southpoint Lofts and open by appointment. Visitors are welcome and can email me lindapdonohue@hotmail.com to come for a look.

Here's how it happened:
When my family's San Francisco furniture showroom closed over the Summer I had the luxury of 5000 sq. ft. of storage space for art, shipping supplies, framing and files. Now that we have a tenant I tried to fit it all in with my home studio and suddenly had to shimmy through the front door to get into the house.
During all this moving I visited a friend from the Petaluma Arts Association at her class room and glass art studio. I couldn't believe what I saw and that there was an available space down the hall. Two days later with the help of my family we made an art studio and gallery space. The kids helped paint the walls and my husband took care of the heavy art desk.
It's been a dream to be able to paint and display the art in one space.
The studio is open by appointment and I welcome you to visit.

The Bay Meets the Desert -Seascape from Start to Finish

Painting large is great exercise. This new 48 x 60 Seascape was challenging but fun and is filled with life. It's inspired by a combination of the San Francisco Bay and a recent trip to Death Valley National Park. Inspiration comes in many forms and I'm finding you can't always control it or make things happen.
They just naturally evolve.

A Visit to the Desert for Inspiration

Darwin Falls 11 x 14
Panamint Springs 14 x 11

Furnace Creek 16 x 16
I had the pleasure of driving with my family to Death Valley National Park this holiday season. It was like visiting another planet and if you like rocks.... WOW! I love neutral colors and it was a learning experience to be so absorbed in them. These are some recent paintings inspired by the trip. I can't wait to go again next year.

Art filled Thanksgiving

City with Gold 40 x 30

Morning Sun 18 x 18
Drakes Bay 20 x 10

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
This year as most we'll celebrate with our families coming together and enjoying each others company. What will be different is that my art studio is located in the center of our home. A six foot art table covered in paint will serve as the buffet (I have a table cloth) and the bookcase filled with mediums, paints, matting materials and brushes will decorate the wall along with my paintings ready to ship to the next show in Atlanta.
I met a nice woman at open studios who when I told my house is taken over by art and painting supplies. She said "You're so lucky. I hope you're family appreciates it."
I have to say I appreciate my family for living in a house filled with art and I hope my guests will too.

Abstract Art "It's all in the detail"

Colorscape City 48 x 30 by Linda Donohue

Patchwork Landscape Pink 16 x 16 by Linda Donohue

Cityscape with Orange 40 x 30 by Linda Donohue (sold)
"It's all in the detail" is something I heard constantly in the furniture business. Keeping track of containers and factory orders, following up with design, production and shipping. At times the details can be overwhelming.
While there are certainly parallels in the art world (and many businesses),  I've found new details that are far more joyful.
The paintings shown are filled with detail and cheerful color. It's a bit different than the minimalist seascapes I love to paint and so far the reaction has been great.

Busy with the Blues

August was a busy month. Suddenly there were a lot of commissions to complete and many were in blues, like the two above. My father passed away at the end of the month after a long struggle with Lou Gehrig's Disease and it was a life changing moment. My friends and clients have been wonderfully supportive and I appreciate them so much. Now I'm looking forward to a September filled with art shows and painting for the High Point Furniture Market shipment in a few weeks. Busy is good.
